About the Trace Center

The Trace Center is part of the College of Engineering, University of Wisconsin-Madison. With funding from the U.S. Department of Education (NIDRR), the National Science Foundation, and industry, Trace focuses on research and development related to making information technology and telecommunications more usable by everyone.

Trace Center LogoTrace has been an active member of the V2 Technical Committee since its inauguration in October 2000, and is conducting a program of research and development projects in support of V2 standards development and implementation. Gregg Vanderheiden, Ph.D., Trace Center Director, is Vice Chair of the V2 Technical Committee. Gottfried Zimmermann, Ph.D., a project director at the Trace Center and an independent consultant, is Editor of the V2 draft standards and directs the V2 Tools Program at Trace.

Prior to the inception of the V2 Technical Committee, the Trace Center had conducted research and development on a Universal Remote Console Communication Protocol and an earlier Universal Auxiliary Interface Protocol. This work provided a basis for many of the V2 efforts.
